Post Recap, 20-04-12

April 20th, 2013

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a recap of posts here at the blog, but I’ve been fairly active recently, so let’s catch up a bit.

I slowed down at Christmas, but managed to keep going at Black Gate; here’s my recent post on secret identities and The Scarlet Pimpernel. Just before the holidays I reflected on some surprising things in an episode of Nova about castles and cathedrals. I got some books as gifts at Christmas, and have generally been keeping track here of books I’ve acquired.

I’ve had some brief reflections on The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a couple of thoughts on Gibbon, and a quick note on the Game of Thrones TV adaptation. I learned something (quite a bit, actually) from Charles Mann’s 1491. And I reflected on playing a video game from my youth. Oh, and on a gaming supplement from twenty years ago.

Something struck me as ironic in current literary incarnations of Jane Austen. I put forward a suggestion for the actor with the greatest sf/fantasy filmography. I tried to write a bit about how enjoyable archery is, though there’s more to be said about that, I think. And it’s spring, and I’m feeling good, and so got to thinking a bit about Frye’s theory of literature and the seasons.
