A pause today in the posts about the Fell Gard process. I want to start putting up posts once a week collecting links to the previous week’s blog posts. So here’s an extra-long version, a recap of what’s been going on around here since the start of the month.
I began by writing a bit about my hopes for the site going forward, then discussed some new bits of exposition I’ve added into the story and what I learned about the story in so doing. Then I listed the books I found at this year’s McGill Book Fair before considering some of the historical issues around leather armour.
A post I had at Black Gate led me to think about fantasy fiction without obvious rules. Then I considered the limits of reading in a single life. After putting up a copy of a response to something on Mark Lawrence’s blog, I returned to talking about Fell Gard and my choice of synonyms for ‘corridor.’ I gave a quick review of a book about life in a Medieval castle, then talked more generally about the rewards of research.
I gave a recap of a show by folk musician Heather Dale (it was great!), then shared some idle thoughts in two separate posts about a video game called Angband and its relevance to Fell Gard. I noted that I had another post at Blackgate.com about Michael Moorcock’s Dorian Hawkmoon, then talked about some of the new names I’ve come up with for the dungeon levels.
Then I started talking about process, with two posts about the aleatory nature of Fell Gard — an introduction, and then a discussion of the physical medium of the map I’m putting together. Which brings us all up to date.
Tomorrow, more about the aleatory process, with much talk of dice rolling.
